HV Dads March Event - March Madness!!

March Madness is here!

Please join the Harbor View Dads for our next monthly event on March 19th at 6:00pm. We will be celebrating the first night of the Mens NCAA Basketball Tournament, aka March Madness, at Muldoon’s Irish Pub (202 Newport Center Drive) in the Celtic Bar. This room has four TV’s so you are sure to see every minute of the games. As was the case with our December event at The Place, attendees will be responsible for paying for their own food and drink. However, Muldoon’s has generously offered to donate 10% of all food and beverage checks from HV Dads members to the HV Dads.

We will also raise funds through the use of 10X10 grid games which you will be entered into when you make a donation on the RSVP link of this invitation. For every $5 you donate, you will receive one free entry on the board. Fabulous prizes will be awarded to the winners. Each entry will be randomly placed on the game board and numbers will be randomly drawn to fill out the board. Winning entries are based on the actual halftime and final score of the games being played which makes the viewing experience fun and interactive for all. You do not need to be present at the conclusion of a game to win. Please note that your only opportunity to enter these games is during the RSVP process…we will not be accepting money at the event venue. So, please be generous because the more you donate, the better chance you have to win!

If you have not replied using the Punchbowl invitation previously emailed, you may click on this link to RSVP: http://www.punchbowl.com/partypage/d87e1ec478203590

We look forward to seeing you at Muldoon’s!

Wanted: Dads for Yearbook Picture

Hi Dads.  The Harbor View Yearbook Staff is up against deadline and needs a picture of the Harbor View Dads for the yearbook.  We’d love to have as many dads as possible in the picture to reflect the incredible support you have given the HV Dads this year.

Thus, please come to flag deck on Wed morning, 1/21,  for a very brief photo opportunity.  All dads are welcome!

We appreciate your support!

Support CDM High Athletics

Hi Harbor View Parent.  Your support is appreciated at the 11/18 School Board Meeting (at 6pm) on an important issue affecting the facilities that will be available to our children when they “graduate” to CDM High School.  Several of our high school sports teams have been playing on substandard facilities for years.  Due to some special, one-time state grants, the opportunity exists to substantially upgrade these facilities.

Please note the following quotes from our Harbor View PFO President, Helen MacKinnon, from a CDM Zone meeting she attended last week:

School Board President, Karen Yelsey, and CDM principal, Kathy Scott, have asked that we share try to get as many folks as possible in the audience at the meeting on Tuesday night. No need to speak! Just be there in numbers. They are especially asking for support from our elementary schools as our kids will be the beneficiaries of this great project.

The link for the School Board Meeting Agenda for Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 6pm is:

http://nmusd.csbaagendaonline.net/cgi-bin/WebObjects/nmusd-eAgenda.woa/wa/showMeeting.

I plan on attending and I hope you can as well. Please get information out to your parents as soon as possible. We need grassroots support from all families in the zone to ensure that this side of the bay gets the athletic field it needs to support our amazing athletic programs now and in the future! Basically, this Agenda item is a status report to allow the Deputy Superintendent (Paul Reed) to take the necessary next steps in the planning process for the Athletic Field renovations and to then present the issue to the Board of Education for decision at the December 9, 2014 Board meeting. $7.4 million in funds have already been approved for this project. The funds came from one time State of California Redevelopment assets last year.

I hope you can join us.

INTRODUCING TEAM HV DADS

The Harbor View Dads Board of Directors has voted to introduce a new initiative designed to improve every aspect of student life at Harbor View through a team concept that gives all dads a chance to make an impact and develop closer ties with the HV community.  Its called Team HV Dads and is comprised of the following teams:

  1. Team Technology (concerned with technology in the classroom like iPads as well as what we need for HVD like website),

  2. Team Sports (would help with activities like Pilot Cup soccer, finding coaches for the track team, and other sporting activities we don’t currently have)

  3. Team Curriculum (PFO currently funds instruction for Art Masters, etc but there could be other areas we should expose our students to like Foreign Language, Computer Coding, etc)

  4. Team Campus Environment (dedicated to upgrades of our physical infrastructure like new facilities/equipment and improved landscaping).

  5. Team Community Service (find ways to get our students involved in community service, help with Eco club).

  6. Team Membership (increase participation in HV Dads events and develop sponsorship).

  7. Team Events (develop and manage HV Dads events).

All dads at Harbor View are invited and encouraged to participate with at least one team.  By choosing to participate, a team member can commit as much or as little time as he sees fit.  As with all team structures, there are a variety of roles to be played. Most likely, a few key team members will drive the majority of the action. Some members will become active on a situational basis and the remainder will provide counsel and moral support. We want to make a place for everyone on at least one of the teams and have them feel comfortable in contributing however they are able.

Teams will be lead by Team Leaders. A team may have more than one Team Leader.  At least one of the Team Leaders will be a member of the Board of Directors. This will allow the team to communicate seamlessly with the Board. Team Leaders will not be required to deliver a report at every Board Meeting. However, they will be given time on the agenda if they make a request in advance of the meeting. They can also speak to the Board during Open Forum time if they do not request time in advance. Team Leaders can also request to be on the agenda at HV Dads events to speak to the broader HV Dads audience to publicize a cause they have developed.

So, please consider joining a team today!  The top 4 reasons to join a team are:

  1. Share your relevant experience and expertise with a team and the school community at large.

  2. Learn something new about an area of student life.

  3. Provide input and make an impact on an issue you feel passionate about.

  4. Gain exposure to a group of dads with similar interests and ideas.

If you wish to learn more about any of the teams, please feel free to email jonspotts1@gmail.com.  We will also be discussing this initiative at our HV Dads Chili Cookoff on November 12, 2014.  If you don’t receive an invitation for this event by 11/3/14, please email jonspotts1@gmail.com.

Thank you for making a difference in the lives of the entire Harbor View community!!!
